Furore is the normal UK version, though irrelevant to this discussion
as the pronunciation is fundamentally different as well.

I've only just noticed that in the dictionary pronunciation guides Mike provided, they appear to have BrE with a first syllable stress. This is wrong: it's "fya-RAW".
